Information for prospective students

Thank you for your interest in pursing a M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree with the Soil Ecology Research Group.

I would ask you to first check with the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Office of McGill University to be sure that you meet the requirements for admission to the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. You may want to read the guidelines for graduate students in the Department of Natural Resource Sciences.

Please contact me by email to inquire about the current opportunities with my research group. You no doubt realize that written communication is vital to succeed in graduate school and in a scientific career. Therefore, I would appreciate a sentence or two from you that addresses each of the following points:

  1. Tell me about your educational background. Have you taken course(s) in statistics and quantitative analysis?
  2. Tell me about your research experience in laboratory and field research, and any special training or certification that you may have.
  3. Have you attended or made a presentation at a scientific workshop or conference? Have you contributed to the writing of scientific reports or manuscripts?
  4. Scholarships/fellowships applied for or held.
  5. What research topic(s) would you like to study for your M.Sc. or Ph.D?
Students holding major fellowships, such as an NSERC or FQRNT award, may be eligible to receive an additional top-up award. Canadian citizens and permanent residents who are eligible for an Industrial Postgraduate Scholarship are strongly encouraged to apply. International students who are sponsored by their employer, home government or an international development agency are most welcome to apply.
